I realize I never posted an update on the living room after I started removing the texture. I still need to share what I did one weekend while Brian was out of town – when I was supposed to be studying for a midterm! (I’m a little behind in posts…)
We’ve been enjoying having the living room put together with a TV mounted on grey walls (Behr Ultra paint color matched to Glidden’s Smooth Stone), freshly painted ceiling, new moulding around the doorways, and NO TEXTURE on the walls. That’s right – we have smooth walls! WAHOOOOO!
Here’s how it looks around here:
This was just after we Brian finished cutting and nailing in the baseboards. Looks like a leisurely Sunday afternoon, right??
I realize now looking at these photos that it looks pretty bare in the living room. It doesn’t feel that bare, but maybe we are taking minimalist to an extreme? We definitely need a rug, color on the sofa, and curtains.
Also, in regards to my use of driftwood… I’ve added it to one of the shelves in our coffee tables.
I would love to have a gallery wall above our sofa, similar to Brooklyn Limestone’s or even Young House Love’s. They both rev my decor engine… You may notice I’ve started my own collection for the gallery wall – it’s sitting on the window ledge above our sofa – you see, all the stuff blocking the window and natural light? Yeah… That needs to change.
And here’s the mood board I created to give me an idea of where this room is going (forgive me for my lacking skills in creating mood boards – I’m new to this). Also, I’m not sure if I like statement curtains or a statement rug:
We still need to fill holes, caulk and paint the new door mouldings, caulk and paint the baseboards, and strip the window moulding and repaint. And build a bookshelf type thing around the TV.
We eliminated the gap in the wood floor as you enter and exit the front door. Progress, I tell you!
One day we hope to have a modern sectional sofa to provide more seating – like the one shown above that measures to fit the space PERFECTLY. We *almost* bought it on Craigslist, but it was sold before we had made the decision that it was indeed the couch we wanted.
I think that’s about it for the living room. Stay tuned for the bathroom nightmare I created while Brian was out of town………………
